Winter Wonderland Incoming
The first snowfall of the year often seems to be met with some grumbles and sighs. Of course this is normal; it’s harder to drive, walk, cycle, pretty much get around anywhere. It makes sense that we might not be jumping up and down to get out our shovels. However, there is some magic that happens in the winter and if a quarter of the year is going to be spent in the snow, we can at the very least appreciate some of the benefits of the blustery season.
For example, cuddling up with a warm blanket and hot chocolate and lounging in front of the fire or—better yet—in front of your favourite TV show is something you just can’t do in the summer or even spring some of the time. Hot cocoa is especially delicious when it’s freezing out; add some marshmallows and you’re set for a cozy day. Speaking of blankets and cuddling, I always seem to sleep wonderfully when the weather’s nippy. Something about my cocoon of blankets makes me sleep like a baby and sleep better too. In the summer the cocoon just becomes sweat central and sometimes prevents sleep entirely. A hot soak in the tub, scented candles, comfy sweaters, fuzzy socks and slippers, all of these are pleasures that the summer doesn’t allow for. Another winter benefit is all the layers and fashion options at your disposal. Layers give you a lot of range and you can wear as much as you need to in order to warm up, but you can only remove so much to try and cool down! In my opinion jackets are an outfit’s best friend. Motorcycle, bomber, trench, all of them are a great way to bring any outfit together. So despite the long list of drawbacks, remember that there are great things about every season, and old man winter is no exception!
