Time to Beat the Summer Heat
We are alway very excited when the temperatures get warmer and we can shed all our extra layers and say goodbye to old man Winter and hello Summer heat. However, sometimes that feeling of excitement for Summer disappears instantly when we start burning from the heat and humidity. Well don’t fret, here are some great ways to beat the Summer heat.
Keeping the Sheets Cool
Sometimes it just gets way too hot at night while you sleep and no matter how much you toss and turn you can’t sleep. Well here are some things you can do, right before bed put your sheets in to a plastic bag and then in your freezer. It’ll help give a small bit of relief for those hot summer nights. Also, switching your sheets to cotton ones will definitely help disperse the heat from the bed. But if you need something a little stronger to get your body cool, get a bucket of cold water and a towel and place it by the bed. When you are feeling too hot just dip your feet into the bucket until you are cool and go back to bed.
Spinning the Right Way
Usually when the A/C is on the fritz or you don’t have any the second best way to cool off is with a fan. Some neat tricks you can do to your fan to optimize the cool is to (if you can) adjust the ceiling fan to rotate counter-clockwise so it will pull the heat up and out instead of circulating it around the room. If you have a regular fan that rotates then grab a bowl and fill it with ice. Place that bowl under the fan and as the ice melts the fan will blow a cold mist into the room, it’ll feel like a nice cold mist or breeze.
Constantly Cool
Another way to get rid of the heat in the bed is to grab a hot water bottle and fill it with water and then freeze it, when it comes time for bed simply grab the water bottle and place it under your sheets. You’ll feel relief from the heat when you place the bottle under the sheets. Also, if you sleep with your partner in bed try not to touch each other. When you start to cuddle the more heat will be produced. It also helps to not eat heavy meals for dinner because the more you have to digest the more heat your body will generate.
Reduce the Heat
Summer is the time to try and stay out of the kitchen and keeping the stove off for most of the day. The less cooking that happens the colder the home will stay. If you need to do some heavy cooking try firing up the grill and cooking outside, Summer is known to be BBQ season. Also, keeping the lights off for as long as possible is an obvious but simple change to make during the Summer season, no matter what light bulb you use they all generate heat so the more natural light you use the better.
Stay cool this Summer and you can even make some simple cold packs with grains of rice. Wrap some rice in a sock or some kind of fabric and seal all the rice inside. Place the rice wrap inside the freezer and let it chill out till when you really need to beat the heat. Some things for you to keep in mind to stay cool and out smart the Summer heat.
