New York City
Did you know that New Amsterdam (now called New York City) was home to only 300 people back in 1626? 134 years later in 1760, it was the second-largest city with a population of 18,000 people and 50 years later it became the largest city in the Western Hemisphere. Today, more than 8 million people live in the five districts that make up New York City. These include: the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island. Over the years, more and more tourists flock to New York City and in 2014 they recorded over 56 Million tourists.
There is plenty to do and see in New York City and that can’t be accomplished in a single trip. There are tours in each district that you won’t want to pass up and rushing to try to get everything in will just tire you out and make you miserable. I suggest that your first trip, if just a weekend getaway, that you include several of the main attractions that New York is well known for such as: the Statute of Liberty, Empire State Building, Times Square, Central Park and Broadway.
You may also want to visit the new World Trade Center. The World Trade Center consists of 4 main towers and office buildings with the tallest tower reaching 1,776 feet. You can visit the 9/11 memorial plaza and museum that pays tribute to those lost as well as those who survived the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the original twin towers.
A good way to see a few unique areas of the city is to get tickets to the “Accomplice”. The Accomplice is not like any other show because you are the show. I can’t give too many details as that would ruin it but I can tell you this. A day before the show, you will be given a meeting time and location to start your adventure. You will be sent on a mission and you will be travelling around the city to get clues. Along the way you will meet actors and improv comedians that provide the clue to your next destination. Its part mystery and scavenger hunt all in one. This is a walking tour and takes a few hours so wear comfortable shoes and weather appropriate clothing.
New York City is a must see destination and in my opinion a more than one time trip. Spring and fall are the most comfortable times of the year because the climate is not too hot. But seeing all the store windows decorated for the holiday season is a must too!
