Movie Night with the Family

I don’t know about you, but I am a TOTAL movie nut. I would way rather sit and watch movies all evening than watch TV shows, or binge watch different series on Netflix. I always like the actors that are in movies much better than the ones on TV, and I just find that the stories in movies are always better than those on TV. When I was growing up, my parents took us to the movies all the time, or we would rent movies from the local Block Buster.  I always thought that when I was older and had a family that I would love to do the same and bring my kids and husband to the movie theatre for movie night.

Unfortunately, with the cost of movie tickets so high, it’s very hard to bring my family to the movies! With three kids who I can’t pay the child’s price for anymore (since they’re all over 12), my husband and I, just the tickets alone get pricey—I’m basically paying for 5 adult tickets. The average cost of a movie ticket is $12, which in my books is a lot of money! That’s $60 without tax, just for the ticket! But that’s not all. Popcorn, drinks and other confections are obviously a vital part of the movie theatre experience—and they’re crazy expensive! So on top of paying the $60 for movie tickets you have to pay for these crazy over-priced bags of popcorn and giant cups of coke! $8.15 is the average cost of a large bucket of popcorn, and it’s $6.15 for a large drink! So if I bought two large buckets of popcorn for all of us to share, and then three drinks to share, that would come to $34.75. So, in total, the night would cost me $94.75 to bring my family of 5 to the movies. I think that’s an absurd amount of money and I honestly just can’t afford that!

It really is a shame that I can’t bring my family to the movies anymore… it’s just too crazy! Hopefully one day the prices will be lowered… but until then, we have to turn to Netflix to watch all of our movies!
