Halloween
Trick or treat, smell my feet, give me something good to eat!
Halloween is probably my favourite holiday! Scary movies, carving pumpkins, dressing up in costumes… It’s an all-around good time. Obviously, most people associate Halloween with CANDY! I’m sure we all have memories of trick-or-treating and coming home with a bag full of junk food… I like to re-live those memories and eat candy and chips anyway, but in moderation of course.
I remember when I would trick or treat, we would always come home, dump out our treat bags, and sort them into piles. There was the chip pile, where bags of hickory sticks, chips, and cheese puffs went. There was the pile for chocolate bars, and the smaller pile of full-sized chocolate bars. One house even gave out chocolate milk, and of course there were people giving cans of pop. Those awful caramels that were impossible to remove from the orange-and-black paper had their own pile, and then the powdery tablet candies.
My mom sewed our costumes, so we could be whatever we wanted to be, provided we gave her enough notice to whip something up. Sometimes we’d buy masks or wigs or something, but mainly we would make something ourselves! That way we didn’t have to be the same as everyone else, we could be anything from vampires and witches to super heroes and cute animals. This year, I don’t even know what I want to dress up as! I feel like I’m always unprepared now that I’m older. Usually I just throw on scary makeup and go with whatever I can find in my closet. Pretty sad for someone whose favourite holiday is Halloween!
But it’s not all about dressing up and eating candy, you can enjoy the décor and themes everywhere! Pumpkins, ghosts, witches and spiders adorn almost anything you can think of this time of year. Did you know Lindt makes their chocolates in Jack-o-Lantern wrapping? They do ghosts, too! It’s super cute. You can see them both in this basket! I just bought 3 Halloween-themed hand soaps; I’m a sucker for the seasonal packaging.
And if you’re really not into all that stuff, there are always scary movies and spooky stories! If you’re ever having trouble staying up late, those will do the trick. With the right thriller, pulling an all-nighter becomes super easy… for a whole week! I don’t recommend leaving all your lights on while you sleep, it’s bad for the environment. Plus, the creepy clowns and aliens will have a harder time finding you in the dark!
Send spooky greeting cards or some sweet treats to your friends and family, and maybe throw a Halloween party of your own! Make the most of this fun holiday, but remember to be safe. Or else you might end up as a spooky ghost for real!
