Valentines Gift Secrets
Valentines Day could easily be my least favourite day of the ENTIRE year. I would rather live through a thousand Monday mornings than live through Valentines day. Until I had a girlfriend, that was no problem for me. I would hang out with the guys every Valentines Day night, and I would basically forget what day it was. But now, me and my girlfriend have been dating for a while, and I figure that we can’t NOT celebrate Valentines Day.
To me, the whole thing is so stupid and cheesy. If you love your girlfriend or boyfriend, you should show it everyday. Not just February 14th. It’s so dumb. The whole day is super hyped-up and there’s tons of pressure (of course it’s put on the guys) for it to be a perfect day—and we’re the ones expected to make all the effort and make it perfect.
I must sound like a total jerk by now, but here’s the thing: I really don’t mind doing things for my girlfriend. I really don’t! Take her out for dinner? Sure. Pick her up after work? No problem. But to plan an ENTIRE day and evening dedicated to doing things together for just the two of us! That’s hard! If I mess it up and plan things she doesn’t like she’ll kill me and it’ll be a bad Valentines Day for her. But, if I actually ask her what she likes or what she wants to do, she gets mad and says it’s for me to plan, and that I should know by now what she likes!
I just don’t think that an entire relationship should literally be based off how good of a Valentines Day you have! Who cares? If you’re relationship is good and going strong, Valentines Day shouldn’t just come along and ruin it!
I also think it’s stupid that it HAS to be on the 14th. What if you’re busy that night? Why can’t you just go out for dinner the night before? You’re still in a relationship both nights, right?
And then there’s the gift… It’s honestly impossible to find a perfect gift for Valentines Day. Do you get jewelry? I can’t afford nice jewelry! Do you get a bunch of roses? That’s pretty cliché. And if you get her something that you’d get as a birthday gift, like a gift card or clothes, that’s not “special” enough. So what on earth am I supposed to get? I just can’t win!
Here’s the thing… I got this great idea recently, and I think it’ll make a lot of Valentines Day-hating guys out there feel a whole lot better… A gift basket! There are tons of nice gift basket companies that sell reasonably priced luxury Valentines Day Baskets! Some of them have tons of chocolates, candies, and in some you can even add wine. I think it’s a great idea for my girlfriend. She’ll love that I’m sending it to her to be delivered, she’ll love the food and wine, and most of all she’ll love the thought put into it (even though it’s like the most thoughtless gift ever). So for all you guys out there dreading Valentines Day, this takes one of the challenges off your list… get her a gift basket and watch your problems melt away!
