Getting Back On Track
It’s January! Getting back into the swing of things has been pretty difficult. Getting up on time after a holiday is one of life’s great labours. Staying awake is a dilemma for many so I will share my secrets! There are quite a few ways to stay peppy naturally, so try a few of these out.
Firstly, there are lots of things you really shouldn’t do. Some time-honoured traditions really are just as detrimental as they claim to be helpful so steer clear of some of the classics. Do your research! Coffee certainly has it’s lovers and it’s haters but for the purposes of staying awake for a late office day, it’s the worst. Sure, a jolt of jittery energy seems like a quick fix, but in reality caffeine leads to a vicious cycle. It can take more than 7 hours to wear off, and that means it will mess up your sleep when it finally is time to hit the hay, making it impossible to feel truly rested. Another thing to avoid is DRIVING. You heard me, people. Driving requires your full concentration and no matter how many of these tips you follow it’s just not worth the risk. Falling back asleep at the wheel can happen out of nowhere and the consequences are far worse than falling asleep at your desk and drooling on your files.
One great way for further productivity in the wee hours of the night is just to get up and walk around. Your brain has to wake up to see where it’s going and avoid obstacles, so if one does this periodically, that overcoming that sleepy sensation can be done easily.
When starting back at a schedule, or starting a new one entirely, sleep patterns are of utmost importance. If you must be awake at the crack of dawn, make sure to go to bed early. brepetition, your body will obey you. Force yourself to get up on time, and no napping! Unless it’s a one-off day in your already-established routine, strict repetition is important to get yourself into the groove faster and more reliably.
