Getting in Shape for the Summer
Summer is around the corner, and even if you’re not going away it’s still important to be in shape for the season! Summer is a time for being active and getting outdoors, and it’ll only be that much easier to do all the fun things for summer if you’re in shape. It’s not just about appearance—it’s about the way you feel! If you have plans to go away, then being in shape will just be an added benefit! And, chances are you’ll end up at a cottage maybe for the weekend, or you may end up going on last minute quick getaways. If you’re going up to a cottage, it’s always great to be able to go on long walks on the beach, go on jogs, or do lots of water sports like waterskiing and knee boarding. Being in shape will help you that much more with all of those, especially if you’re just learning!
Since the weather is nice in the summer, you’ll want to be more active and get outdoors often. If you’re stuck in a rut and think the only way you can get exercise is to go to a gym, think again—the summer will provide with a whole new slew of activities. First off, there’s running, jogging, and walking outside, which are all luxuries that we can only do for a limited amount of time. You’ll be more motivated to take your pets for walks, go to the park with your kids, or grab your spouse and head out for a short run. And, speaking of kids, there are tons of things your kids will want to do that you’ll need to be active for, like going swimming, spending the day at wonderland, or playing to the park!
It’s a good idea to start working out in the spring, so that you develop healthy habits for the summer. You don’t have to do any crazy workouts—things simple as half an hour jogs on the treadmill (or outside if it’s nice) or even taking your dog for more walks will help you start getting back into the swing of things. And, if you can, it’s great to try and bring back your healthy eating habits. Often times during the winter and early spring our eating habits are not at their finest—in the winter we’re outside less and we want to eat more, and in the spring we have march or spring break to eat all kinds of foods we don’t eat. There are so many great healthy recipes that you can find for spring and summer to help get you and your family’s eating habits back on track!
