Cold Weather in North America

If you live in North America, you’ve most likely been experiencing hell on earth (a.k.a. unusually cold temperatures). If you’re like me and you hate winter to begin with, you’ll probably feel the same way about the temperatures as I do, meaning you can’t stand it and want to run away somewhere hot… except you can’t because everywhere in North America is cold!!!

Right now, Toronto has been under an extreme cold weather watch, along with all of Southern Ontario, and it’s been like this for a few weeks now. It’s crazy! They’re calling for extreme wind chills of minus 30 and 40 degrees! What is this?

But it’s not just Toronto. This past weekend New York City issued a weather alert for extreme cold temperatures on Friday and Saturday. And to make matters worse, they were told they would be receiving freezing rain, snow and sleet!

But if you think that’s bad, here’s where it gets worse: usually when I’m cold, my copout is that I want to go to Florida.  Here’s the thing—this past weekend, in the Florida Keys, a new low temperature record was broken! Typically, the lowest temperature for the Florida Keys is 67 degrees (Fahrenheit), and it was 49 degrees this past weekend, beating the 52 degree record. 49 Fahrenheit is 9 Celsius, which to us doesn’t sound that bad. But, if you’re used to 19 Celsius weather being your lowest temperature, that’s pretty darn cold.

You know it’s bad when even Florida’s freezing!

For those of you who hate winter, hang in there. I’m sure the cold weather will pass soon and we’ll be enjoying the delights of spring weather soon enough!
