Winter Vacation Planning
March Break is around the corner, and I know that my kids are not looking forward to it. This year my husband and I decided that we aren’t doing a vacation. Every year we take a vacation to somewhere new—Chicago, NYC, Miami, Aruba, Montreal, you name it. My kids are well-travelled. This year we just thought it’d be a nice break to stay home and relax. Even though vacations are fun, they are definitely NOT relaxing… you’ve got to expect that with kids! It’s pretty hard for both my husband and I to take off work for an entire week and take a vacation. It can get pretty pricey! Between the two of us, we’ve managed to make sure that each one of us is going to be off work with the kids every day this week. And, two out of the five days both of us will be off! Whew!
The kids are pretty bummed about not going away, so my husband and I have promised that we will plan some really good stuff for them to do for the week! We decided that on the first weekend of the break, we will do lots of winter sports—skating, skiing, toboganning, etc. All of my kids are sporty and love doing those kinds of things, and so do my husband and I! I’m taking off Monday with my husband, and we thought we would take them to see a movie in the afternoon. The girls are signed up for morning Dance Camp at their dance studio. Then on Tuesday, when my husband is off, he’s going to take the boys downtown to the hockey hall of fame while the girls are at dance. On Wednesday, I’ll be off, and I’m setting up playdates for all the kids at some point in the day. Then on Thursday, when I’m off, the boys will chill in the morning while the girls are at dance camp. But, in the afternoon, I’m taking them all to the mall! They all are in need of some new clothes! And then, on Friday my husband and I will both be off, and we’re going to surprise them with a special treat… we’re going downtown to the CN tower! We’ll eat in the CN tower restaurant and we’ll do CN Tower fall. It’ll be awesome. That second weekend, my older son has a hockey tournament in Ottawa, so we’re all going to go. It’ll be like a mini-vacation.
When we told my kids about the plans, we could see that they were a little happier and looking forward to the break! Go us!
