10 Things to do When You are Bored
Some days can be just boring. You wake early in the morning and think “what am I going to do today”? You have no plans, your friends all seem to be busy, the weather is crappy; whatever the excuse, here are 10 things anyone can do when they are bored.
- Read a book – I read an article about must read books that you can’t put down and here’s a few: Safekeeping by Jessamyn Hope, Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon.
- Go for a walk – Walking increases serotonin levels in the brain. Serotonin is the neurotransmitter that influences your mood. So the higher the level of serotonin, the better mood you will be in.
- Go to the park – Even if you don’t have kids, go to the park, sit on a bench and watch the kids play. Seeing kids smiling and laughing will help lift your spirits.
- Have a nap – If it’s not raining, grab a pillow and blanket and head outside for a nap. Nothing’s better than lying in a chair (or hammock if you have one), drifting off into a blissful sleep listening to the birds chirping and the breeze blowing.
- Do a puzzle – Get old-fashioned and pull out a puzzle. Finding the right spot for all those puzzle pieces can dwindle the hours away.
- Paint by Numbers – Next trip to Walmart grab a few paint by numbers. It doesn’t matter if you are not an artist all you have to do is stay in the lines and know how to count.
- Paint your bedroom – Is your room looking tired and outdated? Then why not spruce it up with a fresh look. Depending on the size of your bedroom, this task could take you all day.
- Go to the gym – If you have a membership, get off your lazy butt and head to the gym. Exercising is a great way to reduce boredom and it’s a healthy option.
- Listen to music – Grab your headphones, find a quiet and comfortable spot and listen to your favourite band.
- Watch a movie – My favourite is to watch a movie. Action or scary will get your heart thumping and within minutes your boredom will be gone!
